Bangladesh Expands Solar Irrigation to Cut Diesel Use

Bangladesh is scaling up its solar-powered irrigation initiative, aiming to cover 50,000 agricultural fields by the end of 2025. The project, led by the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), replaces diesel-powered pumps with solar alternatives in rural zones.

Farmers are reporting lower operational costs and improved yields. The solar sets are partly subsidized, and the government is offering zero-interest loans for installation.

Such green farming methods may interest agricultural zones in eastern India, Nepal, and Bhutan, where diesel irrigation remains a costly, polluting necessity.
