In order to prevent a repeat of the violence that characterised the Ram Navami holiday last week, security authorities kept a careful vigil across the state as the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations went off without incident in West Bengal.
Three companies of the central armed police forces were stationed in areas of Kolkata, Hooghly, and Barrackpore as per a Calcutta High Court directive to support the state police in upholding law and order during the day.
