Bengaluru’s first underground electric transformer inaugurated at Malleshwaram

India’s first underground electric transformer unveiled at Bengaluru’s Malleswaram 15th cross on 5th of September 2023. It has been inaugurated by Energy minister KJ George.

This development is a very good example of modernizing the power distribution infrastructure, it will enhance the safety of the people walking on the footpaths. From now onwards they can move without disruptions during maintenance works on overhead cables and related equipment. And there will no cable lines running overhead which most of the time disturb the construction works. Hence, it will provide an aesthetic look to the city.

The project was accomplished with a collaborative effort of Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The underground transformer now can remain  unaffected from harsh climate changes.
