Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb has launched a scathing attack on the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], calling Communism a “machine that destroys youth and women.” Speaking at a BJP party event in Bishalgarh Assembly Constituency under Sepahijala District on Sunday, Deb accused the Communists of dividing people along religious and caste lines and suppressing opportunities for youth and women. “That’s why whenever I come to Tripura, I warn people about Communists,” Deb said. “They never allow young people to become self-sufficient and never allow women to work. We can’t allow the ghost of Communism here. Any other party may come or form a government, but we can’t give an inch of land to Communists because they create people who hate the country and turn them against their own families.”
He further alleged that CPI(M) has never worked for economic growth and instead hindered Tripura’s development during its decades-long rule. “During their 35 years of governance, they failed to bring a single major manufacturing unit to Tripura, while today, young entrepreneurs from Bishalgarh are proving their potential,” he said. Deb also accused the Left party of not respecting the Indian Constitution, saying, “Communists follow their own rules and their own Constitution. Whenever they are in trouble, they start a drama by claiming they follow the Indian Constitution.”
The MP claimed that Tripura’s per capita income has significantly increased since 2018, when the BJP government came to power, contrasting it with the economic conditions under CPI(M) rule. Deb’s remarks come ahead of the 2025 elections, signaling a renewed political battle between the BJP and CPI(M) in Tripura.
