Trinamool was accused of beating BJP candidate Papia Adhikari from Uluberia South Assembly constituency. The incident took place on the premises of Uluberia Sub-Divisional Hospital. Although the Trinamool has denied the allegations.
According to sources, sporadic clashes between the BJP and the Trinamool took place in Uluberia South during the polls on Tuesday. Trinamool was accused of hitting a BJP worker with a sword during the clash. Papia went to Uluberia Sub-Divisional Hospital to see the worker. That is where his quarrel with the grassroots activists started. The BJP has alleged that the candidate was asked to leave. Papia was discharged from the hospital.
The BJP alleges that the Trinamool started beating the workers who were with Papia outside the hospital. He allegedly slapped and pushed Papia when she tried to stop him. The BJP alleges that even though there were police there, they were in the role of virtually silent spectators. Apart from Papia, some other BJP workers were also injured, the Gerua camp claimed.
