A high-level delegation of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) visited the Asarambari Assembly Constituency in Tripura’s Khowai district on Monday, following an alleged attack on BJP workers by supporters of the Tipra Motha Party during the live airing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme on Sunday. The BJP team included ministers, MLAs, and members of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), who arrived in the area to take stock of the situation, meet the injured workers, and call for immediate action to prevent further political violence.BJP leader Rampada Jamatia, addressing the media, blamed the unrest on former CPI(M) cadres who had joined the Tipra Motha Party after the BJP formed the government in the state. He alleged that these individuals were attempting to disrupt peace by reviving the demand for Greater Tipraland, and urged the Centre to intervene.
“We allied with the IPFT in 2018 and faced similar attacks then. Now, Tipra Motha is repeating this tribal-versus-tribal conflict. This must stop. The Centre, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, must take this seriously,” Jamatia stated. He further called on Animesh Debbarma, Tipra Motha MLA and a cabinet minister, to clarify his stance and role in the incident, claiming that his supporters were involved in the attack. “We demand a thorough investigation. We will meet the Chief Minister and insist on strict action. Rule of law must be upheld,” he added.Tripura Minister Santana Chakma, who was also part of the delegation, condemned the incident and confirmed that several BJP workers had been hospitalized due to injuries. “This was an unprovoked attack during a peaceful program. We seek peace and will counter violence through democratic means,” she said.
Former Lok Sabha MP Rebati Tripura echoed these concerns, terming the attack “unacceptable in a democracy.” He emphasized that political differences should not lead to violence and that all parties must engage peacefully within the democratic framework. The BJP team also met with Khowai District Superintendent of Police, Randitya Das, and demanded an impartial probe into the incident. They called for swift identification and arrest of those responsible for the violence.
