BJP faces intra-party battle in Koloriang constituency

Arunachal Pradesh’s political scenario is witnessing a heated battle within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the Koloriang constituency gears up for a fiercely contested election. In a recent mass joining event held at Sarli town within the 21st Koloriang assembly constituency, the stage was set for a showdown between incumbent BJP MLA Lokam Tassar and newcomer Pani Taram, who has recently switched allegiance to the BJP.

Pani Taram, a former MLA who once served the constituency from 2014 to 2019, announced his candidacy, challenging Lokam Tassar’s hold on the seat. The move has split the BJP camp, highlighting the common phenomenon of intra-party rivalries in Arunachal Pradesh. Thousands of residents from Sarli and Polosang circles, located near the Indo-China border in Kurung Kumey district, have pledged their support to Pani Taram, indicating a shift in local political dynamics. Taram’s emphasis on development and promises to prioritize the constituency’s progress have resonated with the electorate.

Speaking to the media, Pani Taram expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from various sections, including former members of Congress and the National People’s Party (NPP) who have joined the BJP ranks under his leadership. He emphasized his commitment to the constituency’s growth, citing self-employment, tourism, and agriculture as key focus areas. However, the decision on BJP’s official candidate rests with the party’s high command, with factors such as winning prospects and merit playing crucial roles in the selection process.
