In a sharp escalation of political tension in Mizoram, the Mizo National Front (MNF), the state’s principal opposition party, has announced a 10-hour statewide shutdown on October 29 to protest the extension of the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Act (FCAA), 2023, to the state. The MNF has accused the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government of failing to protect Mizoram’s forest rights and regional autonomy.
