The World Rhino Day was celebrated by Bongaigaon Refinery of IndianOil Corporation Limited with full fervor with a host of programmes aimed at conveying the message of saving the one-horned rhino.
The day began with a inter school speech competition among various schools of Chirang and Bongaigaon Districts on the theme “Keep the Five Alive” aiming to celebrate all five species of Rhino including greater one –horned or Indian Rhino,Sumatran,black,white and Javan Rhinos that are found in Africa and Asia.The program was graced by Chief Guest Shri P Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy,IAS,DC Chirang,Guest of Honour Shri Pranjit Bora,IPS,SP Chirang, Shri Nayan Kumar Barua, CGM & Refinery Head ,Bongaigaon Refinery.The Judges for the inter school speech competition were Dr.Nilpadmini Rabha,Principal of UN Brahma College, Dr RC Muchahary, Basugaon College,Dr Kalpana Kalita Das,Assistant Professor,Birjhora Kanya Mahavidyalaya. Shri Reddy during his address appreciated IndianOil adoption of the One-Horned Rhinoceros as its mascot to spread the message of this endangered species and also appreciated Bongaigaon Refinery for conducting the inter school speech competition among the students for spreading the noble message.
As a part of the World Rhino Day celebrations an awareness campaign was also organized at Chirang, Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar Districts. An interdistrict friendly football match between Chirang and Bongaigaon District was also organized on the occasion of 11th World Rhino Day 2022 at Chilaria Stadium, Barshangaon, Bongaigaon.The program saw the presence of Shri Nabadeep Pathak,ACS,DC Bongaigaon, Shri J J Das,CGM(T),Shri KVSN Subudhi,CGM(Finance),Shri SMS Islam GM (MS,L&D) senior officials from Administration from Chirang and Bongaigaon, senior executives of IndianOil ,representatives of IndianOil Officers Association, Bongaigaon refinery and BGR Employees Union. In his address Shri Barua of Bongaigaon Refinery expressed that Bongaigaon Refinery took an proactive initiative to organize an impactful program with the three districts for sending a special message ‘Save the Rhino’ in the three districts –Chirang,Bongaigaon and Kokrajhar. This year theme is World Rhino Day 2022 is Keep the Five Alive, that is black,white,greater one horned Sumatran and Javan. The Rhinos have reached on the verge of extinction due to climate change,poaching and disturbance in natural habitat. It is essential to create awareness among people regarding the importance of this incredible species.
