Brazil’s Standard Chartered Deal Ushers in New Carbon Credit Era

Standard Chartered has entered a five-year exclusive agreement to sell millions of carbon credits from Brazil’s Acre state rainforest. The arrangement is designed with high environmental integrity and transparency—delivering up to 5 million credits by 2026 and funneling 72% of revenue to local and indigenous communities.

This just and sustainable model is being closely monitored in Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, where governments are exploring similar mechanisms to equitably finance forest conservation and community livelihoods.
