On February 12, 2025, British music sensation Ed Sheeran will play in Shillong as part of his Mathematics Tour. A gathering of 26,000 supporters, including those from beyond Meghalaya, is anticipated at JN Stadium. Children under the age of five are not permitted to attend the event due to stringent limitations implemented by the authorities. The restriction was verified by Deputy Commissioner Rosetta Mary Kurbah, who said that “children under the age of five will not be allowed entry, even if accompanied by a parent who has a ticket.”
Following last year’s Bryan Adams performance, Shillong has gained a reputation as a center for international music events. DC Kurbah, Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Syiem, and event manager Nikita presented security protocols, crowd management techniques, and logistical planning for the eagerly awaited performance at a press briefing. Authorities are advising guests to arrive early in order to minimize traffic because there are only two authorized access gates.
Vivek Syiem, the superintendent of police, promised that security and traffic controls are in place. Event Manager Nikita provided details on the entry process, saying, “People will be able to access the SRT parking area at 3 PM, when the lineup will start. But entry to the stadium grounds won’t start until 4 PM. Three steps are involved in the screening process: a soft check for wristbands, a hard check at security gates using metal detectors and frisking, and a final soft check prior to stadium access.”
