Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, IPS, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command, Kolkata, is currently on a four-day visit to Tripura to assess the security situation and operational preparedness along the Indo-Bangladesh border. His visit comes at a crucial time as the state continues efforts to strengthen border surveillance and curb trans-border crimes.
During the ongoing tour, the ADG has been visiting several forward Border Out Posts (BOPs) in key districts, including West Tripura, Sepahijala, South Tripura, Gomati, and Dhalai. At each location, Aggarwal interacted directly with BSF jawans and field commanders to understand the ground-level challenges they face. He reviewed the deployment patterns, border fencing, surveillance equipment, and other security infrastructure crucial to safeguarding the 856-kilometre-long border Tripura shares with Bangladesh.
On June 27, Aggarwal addressed a Sainik Sammelan at the BSF Headquarters in Salbagan, Agartala. During his address, he commended the courage and dedication of BSF personnel and reminded them to uphold discipline, remain physically fit, and stay motivated in their duties. “The BSF plays a vital role in securing our borders. High morale and fitness are key to facing emerging threats with confidence,” he said.
The ADG’s itinerary also includes high-level meetings aimed at improving civil-military cooperation. He paid courtesy visits to Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, Chief Secretary J. K. Sinha, IAS, and Director General of Police Anurag, IPS. These interactions focused on enhancing coordination between the BSF and state agencies for better border management, improved intelligence sharing, and joint efforts to prevent illegal activities such as smuggling and infiltration.
BSF officials said that collaboration with local administration is critical to managing dynamic border issues effectively. The ADG’s meetings with state leaders signal a shared commitment to ensuring peace, security, and law enforcement in the border belt, which often witnesses cross-border challenges due to its geographical and demographic sensitivity.
