Security has been intensified in North Tripura’s Kanchanpur following reports of extremist group movements near the international border with Bangladesh, officials said on Friday.
Kanchanpur shares a 48-km border with Bangladesh’s Rangamati and Khagrachari districts, with a 300-meter stretch unfenced. Superintendent of Police, North District, Avinash Kumar Rai, stated, “There are reports of extremist activity along the border, but no concrete evidence of their presence has been confirmed.”
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) have increased patrolling in vulnerable areas as a precautionary measure. “The border remains secure, and special operations are underway,” Rai assured, adding that law and order is under control, with developmental activities continuing smoothly across the subdivision.
