GUWAHATI: Astronomy enthusiasts and sky gazers are now looking forward to watch the first solar eclipse of 2020.
“This is the first solar eclipse of the year and is an annular eclipse. In Guwahati, it will begin at 10:57 am slowly reaching a maximum eclipse at 12:46 pm and will finally end at 2:24 pm. The eclipse will last for a period of 3 hours and 27 minutes,” said astrophotographer Dipankar Bhagawati, popularly known as Stephen Styris.
“People must make sure not to view the eclipse directly without solar filters meant for such observations as it may result in permanent irreversible loss of eyesight,” warned the astrophotographer.
The annular eclipse will begin at around 10:12 am on June 21. The ‘ring of fire’ will be seen just for a minute from parts of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when all three celestial bodies – the Sun, the Moon and the Earth – are aligned in a straight line.
