Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.) engaged with the multi-disciplinary team from the Centre for Contemporary China Studies (CCCS), Ministry of External Affairs, during their visit to Northeast India. The governor praised the CCCS for their significant contributions and underscored the necessity of understanding local dynamics and perspectives before formulating policy decisions, emphasizing that knowing the people is crucial to prevent errors in judgment. He portrayed Mizoram as an agriculture-driven economy currently facing a revenue deficit, yet making steady progress in infrastructure development and overall advancement. Singh characterized Mizoram as a well-organized and peaceful society, free from major inter-tribal conflicts, and highlighted its political stability. For the first time, Aizawl is now on India’s railway map, with an ongoing project extending to southern Mizoram, linking with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project aimed at enhancing the Northeast’s connectivity. Additionally, he mentioned the central government’s Vibrant Villages Programme, focused on improving border infrastructure in Northeast India. The CCCS team, led by Joint Secretary Aparna Ray, visited Mizoram for two days, interacting with the governor and sharing insights, while focusing on the region’s realities along the Indo-Myanmar border and engaging with local civil and security administrations.
