CBI arrests 3 in Balasore train crash case 

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the Balasore triple-train accident that claimed more than 290 lives, has arrested three railway employees, officials said on Friday.

They said the arrested include senior section engineer Arun Kumar Mahanta, section engineer Mohammad Amir Khan and technician Pappu Kumar under sections 304 and 202 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The sections under which the three have been arrested relate to criminal homicide not amount to murder and destruction of evidence, they added.’

The central probe agency had formally taken over the probe into the train accident in Odisha’s Balasore on June 6.

More than 290 people were killed and more than 1,100 injured in the accidents of two passenger trains and a goods train on June 2, while the movement of goods and passenger trains on busy routes was also disrupted.
