On Friday around 6 am, the mass gathered to celebrate the 112th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa which is on the 26 of August; her sisters sang hymns and offered prayers in remembrance of her, near her tomb. Fr Devraj Fernandez, the editor of The Herald, said, “We are expecting many visitors for the morning Mass. Like every year, this year too will be a grand event. After that, there will be a prayer service dedicated to the mother, also on a smaller scale, reflecting the world”.
The president of the catholic association of Bengal has arranged a catholic prayer service at Motherhouse, they said “we have arranged multi-dimensional prayers and services in the churches in Kolkata, it will dignify, ceremonious and peaceful occasions. Amend covid restriction; as there was no celebration for the past two years, the streets of Kolkata are lighted and decorated with banners and mother quotes, With prayers and services mother’s birthday will be celebrated with the same enthusiasm.
Born in 1910, Mother left her home at the very young age of 18, Mother Teresa’s real name was Agnes Gonsha Bojaxiu and she later joined the ‘Sisters of Loreto’ in Rathfarnham, Ireland. She came to India in the year 1920, and she has served poor people her entire life, she won the Nobel peace prize in the year 1979, out of the 12 Nobel prize winners from India. She died in 1997, and this year is also market 25th death anniversary of mother. In September 2017, for her selfless service to poor people and helping the underprivileged and poor in Kolkata she was declared Patron Saint of the Archdiocese of Calcutta by the Vatican Pope
