Centre Grants In-Principle Nod for New PPP-Model Medical College in Arunachal Pradesh, Namsai Selected as Location

The Centre has granted in-principle approval for a new medical college in Namsai district, Arunachal Pradesh, as part of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative aimed at enhancing medical education in underserved regions. This college is among 11 approved by the Union Government, which include institutions in Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. The PPP model focuses on upgrading existing district hospitals rather than building new campuses, aiming to address the shortage of MBBS seats. Financial support will include up to 30% Viability Gap Funding, potentially rising to 40% during the pilot phase. The establishment of the medical college is expected to alleviate financial burdens on families and attract healthcare industries, positively impacting Namsai’s economy and educational landscape. Local leaders and community organizations have praised the decision as a historic milestone for the region.
