Centre Grants Mizoram Waiver on Dues for Vacated Assam Rifles Facilities

According to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, the Central government has canceled the state government’s obligation to pay Rs 5.23 crore for abandoned Assam Rifles facilities. The depreciated cost of the structures and infrastructure in Aizawl that the Assam Rifles had abandoned was the amount that the Mizoram government was obligated to pay. The decreased worth of infrastructure and buildings after taking wear and tear over time into account is referred to as depreciated cost. According to Lalduhoma, he asked Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nitiyanand Rai in May of last year to waive the amount, and the Center granted his plea.In March 2025, the Assam Rifles moved its headquarters to Zokhawsang, about 15 km from the Mizoram metropolis, in response to a long-standing request from the people of Mizoram.
