Chhattisgarh: 5 jawans, 2 Naxals killed in Bijapur encounter, fierce gunfight on

Five jawans and at least two Naxals have died in an ongoing encounter between security forces and Naxals in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Three of the deceased jawans were from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) while two were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG).

Sources say Naxals fired upon a joint party of the CRPF and the DRG, following which the encounter started. The encounter took place in the Silger forest of Bijapur’s Tarem.

At least two Naxals, including a woman operative, have also been gunned down. Firing from both sides is on.

Earlier this week, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) arrested three Naxals for planting explosives to target security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district.

Naxals have been known to use IEDs to target security forces.

In March of this year, Naxals had killed a Zila Panchayat member in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Barely hours before the incident, Naxals had set nearly 11 vehicles on fire in Dhanora area of Chhattisgarh’s Kondagaon district
