Kolkata’s deep love for food remained as strong as ever in 2025, with Swiggy data showing that Chicken Fry emerged as the city’s most-ordered dish with 17.2 lakh orders through the year. The city’s famous bond with biryani stayed unbroken, recording 34.9 lakh biryani orders and ranking fifth-highest in the country. Chicken Biryani alone registered 16.3 lakh orders, followed by Mutton Biryani with 11.7 lakh.
High-protein meals also saw growing demand, with 7.8 lakh orders placed. Dessert favourites such as Gulab Jamun (2.1 lakh orders) and Kaju Barfi (1.2 lakh orders) topped sweet cravings, while local classics Gur Sandesh and Gur Rasgulla continued to be everyday indulgences. Dinner remained the most popular mealtime, rising 16.7% year-on-year, and late-night biryani orders dominated the midnight window.
Food ordering trends reflect the evolving urban lifestyle in Kolkata, where convenience, tradition and affordability continue to shape demand. The city showed rising interest in regional cuisines like Bihari and Gujarati food, while Swiggy Dineout recorded strong premium dining growth of 66.5% year-on-year. At the same time, affordability remained key, with strong traction on Swiggy’s 99 Store offerings. Festivals drove massive spikes in orders, especially during Durga Puja when Swiggy clocked up to 197 orders per minute. Overall, more than nine lakh diners used Swiggy Dineout in 2025, collectively saving Rs. 25.28 crore, underlining the city’s appetite for both food and value.
