CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI hosts renal transplantation CME in Guwahati

CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI, in collaboration with the Government of Assam, organised a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on renal transplantation in Guwahati on Friday, bringing together leading specialists to discuss advances in kidney transplant care and strengthen renal healthcare services in the Northeast.

Held at Vivanta Hotel under the theme “Advancing Renal Care through Collaboration, Innovation & Expertise,” the programme was attended by nephrologists, urologists, transplant surgeons, physicians and other healthcare professionals. The academic sessions focused on recent innovations, emerging surgical techniques and best practices in kidney transplantation.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. Sombrata Roy, Unit Head of CK Birla Hospitals, CMRI. Scientific sessions included presentations by Dr. ForqanBabuShaikh, Consultant – General Advanced Robotic Surgery and Renal Transplant Surgery, on robotic renal transplantation, and Dr. Aziz MD Atikul Islam, Consultant – Urology, on retro nephrectomy and contemporary surgical approaches.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Roy said the CME aimed to provide a collaborative platform for clinicians to exchange knowledge, explore technological advancements and strengthen transplant care across Assam and the Northeast through continuous medical education.

The organisers said the initiative is expected to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration, improve clinical competencies and facilitate the adoption of global best practices in transplant medicine. The programme concluded with a networking session, allowing participants to exchange ideas and explore future collaborations to further strengthen renal healthcare services across the region.
