Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on February 28 emphasized the need for a dedicated call centre under the Tripura AIDS Control Society to ensure regular monitoring of AIDS patients. He urged all sections of society to participate actively in AIDS prevention efforts. Speaking at the 18th general meeting of the Tripura AIDS Control Society at the Secretariat, Dr. Saha, who is also the state’s Health Minister, highlighted the critical role of public representatives in spreading awareness. He also called for greater involvement of social organizations in AIDS prevention efforts.
The Chief Minister suggested that the Health Department launch a three-month special campaign for AIDS/HIV detection. He also virtually inaugurated three Link ART centres at Amarpur (Gomati district), Gandatwisa (Dhalai district), and Belonia (South Tripura district), ensuring better access to essential medicines for HIV/AIDS patients. Additionally, Dr. Saha flagged off a mobile ICTC van to support AIDS awareness and detection. He stressed the need for mass awareness campaigns, including newspaper advertisements, talk shows, press meets, cable TV ads, and leaflet distribution in schools and colleges.
The Chief Minister also urged authorities to monitor truck drivers arriving from outside the state and conduct blood tests for early detection of HIV/AIDS infections.
