Cognizant launches ‘Shakti’ in initiative to promote women’s leadership in technology

Cognizant has launched Shakti, a comprehensive set of women-centric programs and policies aimed at accelerating careers and enhancing women’s leadership in technology. Additionally, Cognizant has partnered with nasscom to establish and prioritize best practices with a shared goal of making diversity and inclusion (D&I) a key differentiator of India’s tech sector.

India’s Cognizant has a significant female workforce, with nearly 40% of its associates, compared to the IT industry average of 36%. Over half of 13 centers have over 40% female workforce, with two leading women. Ravi Kumar S, CEO, Cognizant said, “In keeping with our priority to become an employer of choice in our industry, Cognizant is committed to weaving diversity and inclusion into everything we do—how we recruit and hire, develop, promote, engage and retain our talent,”.

Cognizant is launching Shakti, a women-centric initiative aimed at reshaping current programs and policies. The initiative includes RISE, a leadership development program for mid-level women associates in India, ‘Propel’, a global program empowering senior women to accelerate their careers, ‘Returnship’, a 12-week paid program for upskilling after a career break, and ‘Be Gritty’, which trains fresh campus hires to develop a growth mindset.
