Cold conditions persisted across the city on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) even as air quality deteriorated sharply to the ‘very poor’ range. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer app, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 336.
Station-wise readings showed Nehru Nagar recording the most toxic air at an AQI of 360, placing it firmly in the ‘very poor’ bracket. Of the monitoring locations, 21 stations logged ‘very poor’ air quality, while 14 reported ‘poor’ levels of pollution. Only two stations registered readings in the ‘moderate’ category, offering limited relief to residents. Officials warned that stagnant weather and low temperatures may worsen pollution levels in the coming days.
