The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, had visited Cooch Behar district of West Bengal a few days ago. During the visit, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the historic Madhupur Dham Satra in Cooch Behar, where Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev attained Mahaprayan.
During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Assam Government Ministers Ashok Singhal and Ashwini Rai Sarkar, West Bengal Government Ministers Nishith Pramanik and Malati Rava Roy, local MLAs of Cooch Behar along with several officials of the Cooch Behar district administration.
On the other hand, during the visit, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma publicly announced that huge statues of Maharaja Naranarayan and Mahavir Chilarai of Cooch Behar would be installed at the Assam-West Bengal border.
Meanwhile, the announcement of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been welcomed by The Cooch Behar Royal Family Charcher’s Welfare Trust, which represents the descendants of Maharaja Naranarayan and the royal family of Cooch Behar.
According to the Trust President Kumar Jitendra Narayan, Secretary Kumar Brajendra Narayan and Spokesperson Kumar Mridul Narayan, an appreciation letter was sent via email to the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on October 14 on behalf of the Trust.
Even though late, the letter sent to the Chief Minister of Assam welcomes the announcement of installing huge statues of Maharaja Naranarayan and Mahavir Chilarai. In the 16th century, Maharaja Naranarayan and Mahavir Chilarai protected the then greater Assam from external enemies with their valour and bravery. They reconstructed the Maa Kamakhya Temple which was destroyed by miscreants. They even fully supported Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev, considered the father of the Assamese nation, in preaching Vaishnavism and also fully patronized the construction of the Satra at Madhupur in Cooch Behar. We hope that as per the announcement made by the Chief Minister of Assam, the huge statues of Maharaja Naranarayan and Mahavir Chilarai will be constructed within the stipulated time.
It is worth mentioning that during Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit to Madhupur Dham Satra, a delegation led by Kumar Jitendra Narayan had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam. The memorandum demanded eviction of encroached land of the historic Madhupur Dham Satra and recovery of the land, development of Damodar Dham of Baikunthapur along with construction of a boundary wall, naming the under-construction bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Dhubri in Assam and Phulbari in Meghalaya after Mahavir Chilarai, developing the Karmatirtha Bhavan at the Assam-West Bengal border as a centre of tourist attraction, reconstruction of the historic Gohain Kamal Ali road, about 350 km long, which once connected Assam-West Bengal, preservation of traditional culture of Assam and West Bengal, construction of a huge statue of Mahavir Chilarai at the Assam-West Bengal border, and development of all Satras and Namghars in North Bengal associated with the memory of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev including the historic Madhupur Dham Satra.
On behalf of the royal family, Trust President Kumar Jitendra Narayan, Secretary Kumar Brajendra Narayan and Spokesperson Kumar Mridul Narayan said that we welcome the announcement made by the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, that a scheme of Rs 35 crore has been undertaken for the development of Madhupur Satra.
