Covid cases in India: PM Modi to chair virtual meet with chief ministers on Thursday

The rising number of Covid cases has been a cause for concern, especially since the poll season is at hand now. In order to take effective steps to curb the spread of the Omicron-driven infection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a virtual conference meeting with chief ministers on Thursday, January 13.

PM Modi will review the Covid situation in the country and take stock of the measures implemented to curb the spread of the infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a virtual review meeting on Covid-19. PM Modi said that he would hold a meeting with chief ministers soon.

During the review meeting on Sunday, the Prime Minister directed officials to ensure adequate health infrastructure at the district level and accelerate the vaccination drive for teenagers in “mission mode”.

The meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.

The Assembly elections across the country have intensified the need to curb the spread of Covid infection. The Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa will be held between February 10 and March 7. Votes for all assembly elections will be counted on March 10.

Reviewing the Covid situation at a high-level meeting on Sunday, Modi had called for ensuring adequate health infrastructure at the district level and accelerating the vaccination drive for adolescents in mission mode.

The precaution vaccination drive for healthcare and frontline workers besides those over 60 years of age with comorbidities has also started.

Vaccination remains among the most effective means to fight Covid, Modi had said. The prime minister has held numerous meetings with chief ministers to spearhead India’s response to the disease since its outbreak in 2020.
