Mizoram State Agriculture, Horticulture and Marketing Cooperative Federation (MAHFED) Limited has taken action against the illegal sale and distribution of urea following credible information that indicated violations of the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985. A detailed inspection in Aizawl revealed that urea was being sold well above the Government’s Maximum Retail Price (Rs 266.40 per 45 kg bag), with prices reaching Rs 450. This contravenes Clause 3(3) of the Fertilizer (Control) Order and could lead to penalties under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Additionally, a private entity, M/s Zekyl Enterprises, was found operating without the necessary registration and violating Clause 7 of the Order. MAHFED is now issuing show cause notices to the involved cooperatives and coordinating with authorities to prosecute unauthorized suppliers while the government emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy for regulatory violations in distributing subsidized agricultural inputs.
