Criticism arises over recruitment for engineers in Tripura

Tripura’s Labour Minister, Tinku Roy, announced that the state government has successfully recruited 20,000 individuals in various departments over the past three years. These positions include regular scale, contractual, and fixed pay categories. During a discussion on unemployment initiated by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, the minister highlighted ongoing efforts to address joblessness in the state. He revealed that plans are already in motion to fill an additional 20,000 posts across government departments.

The number of registered unemployed individuals in Tripura has reportedly dropped from 7,41,305 in 2018 to 3,09,882 as of March 31, 2024. “It is not true that job aspirants are frustrated,” Roy said, noting the government’s commitment to employment. However, Barman criticized the government, pointing out the lack of recruitment for engineers and qualified candidates like SLET, NET, and PhD holders. He also called for the abolition of outsourcing and fixed-pay job categories, as they deprive employees of important benefits.

Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Chaudhury, also condemned the government for not fulfilling its promise of filling 50,000 vacant posts, made during the 2018 elections. He urged the government to address the state’s unemployment problem and create more job opportunities.
