DA and DR Increase Effective April 1, 2026, Costing State Exchequer Nearly ₹500 Crore

The Tripura government on Monday announced a 5 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, a move that will benefit more than two lakh people across the state.Chief Minister Manik Saha made the announcement in the Tripura Legislative Assembly on the second day of the ongoing budget session, shortly after the state budget for the financial year 2026–27 was presented in the House.According to the Chief Minister, the decision was taken to provide financial support to government employees and pensioners at a time when the state is facing financial pressure.

Despite the financial constraints, the government decided to approve the hike considering the needs of employees and retired personnel. The revised Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief will come into effect from April 1, 2026.Officials said the increase will benefit around 1.2 lakh regular state government employees. In addition, about 81,019 pensioners and family pensioners in different parts of the state will also receive the enhanced Dearness Relief.

The hike is expected to provide some financial relief to employees and pensioners as the cost of living continues to rise. Government officials said the decision reflects the state government’s effort to support its workforce and retired staff. However, the increase will also add to the state’s financial burden. According to officials, the DA and DR hike will cost the state exchequer nearly ₹500 crore.
