An 18-year-old Dalit student at IIT Bombay, who committed suicide, had spoken to his sister and aunt about being turned down by his friends because of his caste, the family has said to media.
While officials at IIT Bombay have told the news of discrimination on the campus is not true and the matter is being investigated by concerned authorities.
Police filed a case of accidental death after Darshan died, apparently after he jumped off the 7th floor of the hostel building on Sunday. They haven’t found a suicide note yet, but a group of student is claiming that the victim was forced to suicide due to discrimination against Dalit students on the campus.
