Death toll in Wayanad landslide rises to 116

Death toll rises to 116 in Kerala’s Wayanad due to heavy rains. Rescue operations are also hampered due to heavy rains. If the rain does not subside, the situation may worsen in the next few hours. The Indian Army has already started the rescue operation. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains in several districts of Kerala, including Wayanad, in the next few hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi were planning to visit landslide-hit Wayanad on Wednesday. However, they temporarily canceled their tour on Wednesday due to inclement weather. Rahul Gandhi posted on social media that he was informed by the administration that the plane will not be able to reach Wayanad due to heavy rains. So they canceled Wednesday’s visit. Rahul Gandhi said that he will reach one day if the weather improves.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has said that heavy rainfall is likely in all districts of North Kerala, including Wayanad, in the next 24 hours. Additional troops have been deployed in Thiruvananthapuram in case the situation worsens. Meanwhile, a 225-member Indian Army team is continuing the rescue operation in Wayanad.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has already held a high-level meeting to oversee the rescue operation. Chief Minister Vijayan has requested everyone not to go to Wayanad unless it is essential. Chief Minister Vijayan said that the administration has given priority to completing the rescue work quickly. Kerala has declared two days of state mourning for the Wayanad disaster. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured the Kerala government of all possible help from the central government.
