Delhi’s filmmaker bleeds on road after crash, robbed even as help comes late

A 30-year-old freelance filmmaker died on Tuesday, three days after he was critically injured in an accident near south Delhi’s Panchsheel Park metro station, police officials aware of the matter said on Wednesday.

Piyush Pal’s friends, the victim also alleged that his laptop, camera and other valuables were stolen as he was lying in blood on the road, though the police did not comment on the complaint. Police said the accident took place around 10 pm on Saturday when the motorcycle of Pal, a resident of Kalkaji, who works as a freelance photographer in Gurugram, collided with another two-wheeler driven by 26-year-old Bunty Kumar. From Badarpur who works as a private driver in Gurugram.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhury said the Hauz Khas police received a call about the accident at 10.11 pm. “A team reached there, where both were seen being shifted to different hospitals. No eyewitnesses were found at the spot… One injured has been shifted to PSRI Hospital and another to AIIMS Trauma Centre,” she said.

The DCP said that the CCTV footage has been analysed, which shows the bike driven by Pal appears to collide with Kumar’s vehicle. “On Kumar’s statement, a case was registered on Monday under sections 279 (riding a vehicle in a negligent manner) and 337 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. Pal’s death was reported around 6 pm on Tuesday. The post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday and the body was handed over to his relatives,” Chowdhury said.
