Dhaka Launches 24/7 Mental Health Line to Tackle Silent Epidemic

The Government of Bangladesh has launched a nationwide mental health helpline, operational 24/7, to support individuals dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, and suicide risk. The service, called “Moner Kotha”, connects callers with trained counselors and psychiatrists.

Launched with WHO support, the initiative aims to combat the growing mental health crisis worsened by job loss, academic pressure, and post-COVID trauma. Over 300 counselors have been onboarded for the pilot phase.

Indian states like West Bengal and Assam, facing similar youth mental health concerns, are exploring the feasibility of cross-border collaboration on this issue.
