Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the Union Cabinet to protect students’ interests, maintain national unity, and prevent unrest from being exploited by “anti-national elements.” In a public letter, he highlighted his 40 years of experience in education and reaffirmed the importance of a strong, inclusive, and transparent education system for national strength. On the NEET-UG examination irregularities reported on May 3rd, the Central Government swiftly responded by referring the matter to the CBI and canceling the exam for a new one. Starting next year, the exam will switch to a CBT mode to enhance transparency.
The government plans a smooth re-examination process for over two million candidates, described as a “whole-of-government approach.” Pradhan expressed disappointment over misleading actions by some officials and clarified that his resignation to Prime Minister Modi was to prevent protests from being exploited, allowing students to focus on their education. He thanked Modi and his team, reaffirming his commitment to public service and youth welfare.
