Dipa village in Lower Siang district holds historical significance as site of first national Fflag hoisting

Dipa village, situated in the Lower Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and falling under the Likabali constituency, holds a special place in history as the location of the first flag hoisting ceremony of the National Tricolour on August 15, 1947. This historic event marks Dipa’s contribution to the freedom struggle and its recognition in the annals of Indian history. Recently, a significant step towards community development was taken with the laying of the foundation stone for a community hall, known as Dere, in Dipa village. The ceremony was presided over by the local MLA of the 28th Likabali constituency, Kardo Nyigyor, and attended by respected members of the village including Marsen Basar, head Gaon burah, Kenya Riba, Tami Basar, Yaken Gara, and other elders.

In the Galo society, Dere holds immense importance, serving as a focal point for various social activities. It serves as a venue for discussions, decision-making processes, and conflict resolution within the village. Additionally, Dere is instrumental in hosting cultural festivals like Mopin and other ceremonial events.Speaking about the significance of Dipa village, MLA Kardo Nyigyor highlighted its historical importance, especially for being the site of the first flag hoisting ceremony during the NEFA era. He emphasized the importance of the newly laid Dere, funded initially with 20 lakhs under the State Infrastructure Development Fund (SIDF), acknowledging that the current allocation might be insufficient for its completion.

Nyigyor assured the villagers of his commitment to securing additional funds for the completion of the Dere, ensuring its transformation into a robust community space. He also outlined various developmental initiatives undertaken in Dipa village, including upgrades to healthcare facilities, education infrastructure, and agricultural and horticultural schemes. Furthermore, he mentioned road development projects under the PMGSY scheme, showcasing a holistic approach towards the village’s progress. The MLA expressed confidence in the diligence and hard work of the villagers, predicting a promising future with record-breaking agricultural outputs and overall socio-economic development.
