DMC Issues Fresh Directives on Building Maintenance, Sunday Shop Timings

The Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has urged owners of private and commercial buildings within its jurisdiction to paint and maintain their properties in a clean and presentable condition by November 30, 2026, ahead of the festive season.

In a press release, DMC chief executive officer Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo said the appeal followed discussions with Dimapur-based civil society organisations (CSOs) on October 1. The initiative is aimed at improving the overall appearance of the city and creating a cleaner and more orderly urban environment.

The council has called on building owners to ensure that their properties are properly maintained and painted within the stipulated deadline. The move is part of efforts to improve the city’s appearance, particularly as the festive season approaches, when public activity and commercial engagements are expected to increase.

The DMC has also issued directions regarding the operating hours of shops and business establishments. According to the council, shopkeepers and commercial establishments should open only after 12 noon on Sundays. On weekdays, businesses may operate until 8 pm, subject to applicable laws and government orders.

The council has appealed to residents, property owners, shopkeepers and business establishments to cooperate with the initiative and contribute to maintaining a clean, organised and visually improved city.

The DMC stressed that public participation was essential to improving the urban environment and ensuring greater convenience for residents. It urged all concerned to follow the directions and work together towards maintaining Dimapur’s cleanliness and overall appearance.
