Doimara welcomes first-ever Eaglenest Butterfly Festival to showcase Arunachal’s rich biodiversity

In a first-of-its-kind celebration, the Eaglenest Butterfly Festival 2024 launched with a three-day event in Doimara, located in Arunachal Pradesh’s scenic West Kameng district. Organized by Nature’s Friendship Rupa and Mahila Shakti Kendra of Balipara, with backing from the Department of Tourism and the Department of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, the festival aimed to promote the critical role butterflies play in ecosystem health.

Festival activities included guided butterfly and bird walks through the picturesque Doimara and Khellong regions, giving enthusiasts a chance to appreciate these vital pollinators and deepen their understanding of their ecological importance. Discussions were also held on butterfly conservation, underscoring their role in maintaining environmental equilibrium.

Former minister D.K. Thongdok inaugurated the festival as the Chief Guest, joined by Millo Tassar (IFS), Conservator of Forests, as Guest of Honour, and Tracy Thongdok, District Tourism Officer for West Kameng. Attendees included representatives from Tezpur University, Rangapara College, and Balipara College, as well as local leaders and residents from nearby areas such as Doimara, Kamengbari, and Rupa.
