Dr. Imtiaz Ghani, orthopedics & a spine surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, conducted a consultation on spine-related problems like scoliosis on February 3, 2024, at Kalyani Arogya Specialty Diagnostics, near JNM water Tank., Kalyani, Nadia, West Bengal. His objective is to establish himself as a world-renowned spine surgeon, incorporate new surgical management methods, and establish innovation in spine surgery through evidence-based research, aiming to improve clinical and functional outcomes for patients.
Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine, and spinal fusion surgery is used to straighten the spine and prevent the curvature from progressing. Spinal fusion surgery can reduce the curve to 25 degrees or less, depending on the spine’s flexibility. Mild to moderate scoliosis usually does not require treatment, but alternative treatments include massage, exercises like yoga and pilates, physical therapy, alternative therapies like chiropractic care and acupuncture, and spinal tethering.
However, these treatments have not been proven to be effective in treating scoliosis. Bracing is a common treatment for less severe cases, but it is only effective for people still growing.
