Dr. Manik Saha unveils TSAAF to boost education in Tripura

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday launched the Tripura School Assessment and Accreditation Framework (TSAAF)—a structured initiative designed to uplift educational standards and school infrastructure across the state. The launch event, attended by educators, administrators, and policymakers, marked a significant step in Tripura’s mission to align its education system with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP). TSAAF will serve as a tool to evaluate institutional performance, identify gaps, and foster a culture of continuous improvement among schools. Speaking at the event, Dr. Saha declared his vision to make every school in Tripura a centre of excellence. “This initiative is a step toward fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. We want Tripura to be known not just for literacy but for educational leadership,” the Chief Minister said.

He pointed out that Tripura has recently achieved the milestone of becoming the third fully literate state in India, following Mizoram and Goa. Sharing recent statistics, Dr. Saha highlighted the dramatic improvement in student performance: pass percentages for Class 10 and 12 exams have surged, with CBSE-affiliated Vidayajyoti schools recording a 26% rise in Class 10 and 21% rise in Class 12 results compared to 2024. The Chief Minister also addressed one of the state’s long-standing challenges—the shortage of teachers, following the termination of 10,323 teachers after a Supreme Court verdict. Acknowledging the crisis, Dr. Saha said, “Everyone knows the vacuum created in the teaching sector due to circumstances we are all aware of. But we are determined to overcome it.” He added that the state is recruiting teachers through the Tripura Teachers’ Recruitment Board (TRBT) and is committed to maintaining quality. “Recently, 226 graduate and undergraduate teachers have been appointed. This is just the beginning. We will continue filling vacancies responsibly,” he assured.

TSAAF is expected to institutionalise a standards-based evaluation system, helping schools focus on learning outcomes, teaching practices, governance, infrastructure, and inclusivity. The framework also encourages schools to develop action plans for improvement based on their performance assessments. Dr. Saha expressed hope that TSAAF would empower not just educators but also students and communities to take pride in their local schools. “This is about shaping the future. A strong foundation today will lead to a stronger Tripura tomorrow,” he said.
