Dr. Naveen Salins Appointed as the new Commissioner of The Lancet Commission

The Lancet Commission has appointed Dr. Naveen Salins as its new Commissioner, leading a study on the humanitarian crisis of cancer in low-resource regions. The commission, consisting of experts from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and Oceania, will focus on palliative medicine and cancer care.

The Lancet Commission, led by Dr. Salins, will analyze the disparity between biomedical and humanitarian aspects of cancer care from November 15-17, 2023, and Toronto in 2024. Their mission is to develop strategic approaches, examining political economy, value systems, and commercial drivers affecting resource allocation for cancer research, education, and clinical care. Dr. Salins, a Professor and Head of the Palliative Medicine Department at Kasturba Medical College Manipal, is the coordinator of Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Centre and Associate Dean of Research. He received the prestigious international palliative care award from the European Association of Palliative.
