The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Dr. S. Somanath, denied media reports that suggested that by 2030, ISRO’s proposed space tourism effort will transport people to space for a price of Rs 6 crore, or USD 700,000 per seat. In an interview with WION, he stated that he had not disclosed any information about the per-seat price or any other specifics regarding India’s prospective space tourism initiative in any media interview or at any event. He claimed that the crucial Indian astronaut mission “Gaganyaan” is now being worked on by the Indian space agency. The goal of Gaganyaan, India’s first human spaceflight programme, is to demonstrate human spaceflight capability to Low Earth Orbit as a forerunner to a future space tourism programme.
