Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharjee successfully performed Northeast’s first robotic knee replacement

A 54-year-old patient in Northeast India underwent a successful Cruciate Retaining Robotic Total Knee Replacement at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. The surgery was performed by Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharjee, a Limca Book of Records Holder and H.O.D & Director of the World’s First Centre for CR Robotic Knee Replacement at Sarvodaya Hospital.

The patient, who had been suffering from severe knee pain for a few months, was advised for a knee transplant in the right knee. Explaining the surgery, Dr. Sujoy said, “The patient’s right knee had deteriorated and surgery was paramount and hence we decided to perform Robotic Knee replacement.

Dr. Bhattacharjee, who has experience of over 20000 joint replacements, used the revolutionary CUVIS joint replacement robot for the surgery. The robot performed bone cuts and implant size with precision, minimizing errors and retaining the patient’s posterior knee ligament (cruciate), a concept known as the ‘Forgotten Knee’. Sarvodaya Hospital in Faridabad, Delhi NCR, was the first hospital in North India to introduce the CUVIS Robot and has now healed over 2000 patients with CR Robotic Knee Replacement. The patient was able to walk in a few hours after the surgery and can now perform basic routine activities hassle-free.
