E-commerce helps kiranas to earn additional income

As the pandemic impacting the jobs and livelihoods of many people, kiranas are increasingly partnering with e-commerce platforms to help deliver orders safely and earn additional income. Northeast is a fast-growing market for e-commerce with a significant increase in demand being witnessed since the last few years.

The expansion of Flipkart’s kirana program across East and Northeastern cities such as Kolkata, Guwahati, Silchar, Noonmati and Shillong makes e-commerce more inclusive by connecting kiranas and providing a personalized shopping experience to the consumers from the region. Flipkart’s kirana programme has helped thousands of kirana delivery partners in the Northeast earn a stable income. Currently, Flipkart has onboarded over 13,000 kiranas from the Eastern region. Through continued efforts, the kirana partners across the country have registered an increase of nearly 30% in average monthly delivery incomes in 2020. Flipkart currently has over 50,000 kirana partners onboarded, significantly expanding its kirana program to deliver to customers across the country.

Launched in 2019, the Flipkart kirana programme aims to expand its reach amongst consumers in tier-2 and tier-3 cities while also providing additional source of revenue to the kiranas.
