The event brought together educationists, academicians, practitioners, institution builders, and experts from diverse fields to discuss the evolving landscape of higher education in India and explore measures that can be taken to fortify its future.The Educators Meet aimed to create a platform for experts to share their valuable insights and expertise in the field of education. The event featured keynote speeches, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that covered a wide range of topics related to higher education, including current challenges, emerging trends, and innovative approaches to learning and teaching.The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Governor of Assam, Gulab chand Kataria, who also gave the presidential address. Dr.Ranoj Pegu, Education Minister of Assam, was the Chief Guest. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Advisor to the Education Department of Assam, was the Guest of Honour. Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University gave the keynote address. Other distinguished guests included Shri Gyanendra Pratap SinghIPS, DIG Police and Shri Devajit Lon Saikia, Advocate General, Government of Assam.
Prof. (Dr.) C. Raj Kumar, Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University said,“We need to recognise both quality and quantity to go together. Over 900million in India is less than 35years of age. Young Indians will be shaping the future of India. They need to access education. Gross enrolment ratio is 22 per cent around, development countries is at 50 per cent.Break the barrier between private and government universities. Together they need to recognise the larger challenge and provide world class education. Education is about public service and common good.”He further added, “The gap needs to be bridged between teaching and research. Reasearch and development need to happen in academic developments. Our nation can make it happen at a cheaper cost. Provide access to large people at a cheaper cost. India can provide global connect for knowledge creation.”
He spoke of breaking the disciplinary boundaries, recognizing the role of technology in education and making holistic development education possible. Concluding his speech, he announced 100 scholarships to students at O P Jindal – 50 per cent fully funded scholarships (tuition fees) in addition to other scholarships and applauded Government of India’s reform in the educations sector. Four yearsago, Prime Minister, Narender Modi made commitment to build institute of eminence; today OP Jindal Global University is one of them.Speaking on the occasion Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Education Minister, Government of Assam said, “Higher educational institutions need to be temple of knowlegde and wisdom. Central theme required is research.Our institutions are degree giving centres. We need to focus on research then only our National Education Policy 2020 objectives will be fulfilled. We need to produce graduates who are employable.Giving degree should not be the focus.Higher educational institutions should also produce employers and entrepreneurs.”
