Uber bike riders in Agartala have initiated an indefinite suspension of their services in protest against the ‘Bike Saver’ option, which they argue has significantly decreased their earnings. Over 200 riders gathered near Heritage Park for a demonstration, voicing concerns over declining income, poor working conditions, and a perceived lack of support from the local Uber office. They indicated that ongoing Smart City projects have worsened road conditions, complicating commuting efforts while they’ve continued to work without sufficient assistance. The riders contend that the implementation of the lower-fare ‘Bike Saver’ negatively impacts their earnings, exacerbating their financial struggles. They have also pointed out that payments for trips in Tripura are lower compared to neighboring states, further strained by rising fuel and maintenance costs. One rider expressed that their livelihoods have been drastically affected, declaring that services will remain suspended until the ‘Bike Saver’ option is retracted.
