Festive Season: Flipkart to create large-scale employment opportunities

E-commerce has emerged as an important growth driver in recent years, helping create lakhs of direct and indirect jobs, while serving millions of customers across the country. This becomes particularly important during the festive season as small and large businesses, kiranas and artisans from across West Bengal look to meet the varied requirements of customers and Flipkart is gearing up to bring festive cheers for the ecosystem partners.

In this endeavour, Flipkart is optimising its supply chain in the state which it has built over the past many years by strengthening its workforce, deploying state-of-the-art technologies and adding kirana and other partners under Flipkart’s alternate delivery models. Presently, Flipkart has 12 supply chain facilities, including fulfilment and sortation centres, and over 160 delivery hubs, which, together, have created more than 57,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state. Flipkart’s seller base in West Bengal has more than doubled to nearly 20,000 since 2019. These sellers offer a wide range of products in categories such as Mobile, Grooming, Food & Nutrition, Home Entertainment, and Household.

Flipkart, in April 2022, partnered with Paschim Banga Society of Skill Development, Government of West Bengal to roll out a 60-day training program through Flipkart’s Supply Chain Operations Academy, to create a pool of trained workforce. Flipkart is also committed to supplementing the incomes of kiranas and has onboarded thousands of kirana partners from the state to help deliver customers’ shipments faster while enabling them to have an alternate source of income. To enable millions of customers to seamlessly operate the Flipkart platform, its mobile app is available in 11 Indian languages interfaces.
