On March 3, the first Food Corporation of India (FCI) food grain cargo train reached Sairang Railway Station in Mizoram, carrying approximately 25,900 quintals of rice from Punjab, as announced by the Railway Ministry. This cargo train, composed of 42 wagons, is a pivotal advancement in enhancing rail-based freight connectivity and the supply chain of vital commodities in the state. The successful unloading of this food grain rake underscores the operational capabilities of Sairang and the expanding function of railway infrastructure in Mizoram’s logistics and food distribution systems. The introduction of passenger and freight train services has significantly transformed transportation within the state, promoting economic growth and bolstering tourism. The completion of the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line, inaugurated on September 13, 2025, marked a historic event for Mizoram, linking Aizawl to the national railway network. This infrastructure project aims to improve transportation and foster economic opportunities and tourism development in the region.
