A major forest fire has ignited near the Sigar military station in East Siang district, raising alarms as it spreads towards military infrastructure. The fire began on Saturday in a nearby forest, and while there are no reported casualties, the situation poses a significant threat to essential facilities. Personnel from the district administration and the Indian Army have been deployed to combat the fire, but efforts are hindered by the challenging rugged terrain and dense vegetation. In response, the state government requested support from the Indian Air Force (IAF), which has initiated aerial firefighting operations using helicopters to douse the flames by sourcing water from the Siang River. However, these aerial operations were temporarily paused on Sunday evening and are slated to resume on Monday morning. Ground firefighting efforts by local authorities and security forces are ongoing to contain the fire’s spread.
