Former Punjab Assembly speaker Nirmal Singh Kahlon dies

Former Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior SAD leader Nirmal Singh Kahlan, 79, died after a prolonged illness on Saturday.

Senior Akali leader Daljit Singh Cheema said in a tweet that Kahlon will be cremated on July 17 at Dadujodh village near Fatehgarh Churian in Gurdaspur district.

Kahlon was the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats in the Akali government from 1997 to 2002. He also worked as a Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2012.
